Applying Music Video Theory : Little Mix 'Shout Out To MY Ex'

Little Mix are a British girl group who formed in 2011 during the eighth series of the UK version of The X Factor that originally went onto it individually. After winning The X Factor, Simon Cowell, owner of the record label Syco Music, signed the four music artists as he saw a potential from the different way they appealed to the target audience. The members of the group are Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson.

This video is categorized as a Staged Performance Music Video, which is Railton's theory. This means that everything in the video was created for a reason to show the audience, that matches the groups genre. The girls addressing the camera and lip syncing helps the video flow with the song.

As well as Railton's theory being shown in this music video, there are elements of Keazor and Wubenna's theory used. There is evidence of cutting to the beat as well as synchronising all of the girls movements to the song. The video also cuts at different point to show where the girls are and what is around them, which helps link the song towards the music video. There are different parts where slow motion has been  used in the video, which helps over exaggerate different scenes.
